Last night, for Zack's birthday (and to prove he's not old), we went to a midnight showing of the movie Avatar. I was moderately excited. On the way there Zack told me that it was only playing in 3D. This made me less excited. The last movie I saw in 3D was Beowulf. The theater was cramped, the 3D made me nauseous, and the movie was total crap. Zack went into a whole speech about how this was new 3D technology and it wouldn't make me sick, la, la, la. I was unconvinced and annoyed...then we watched the movie.
AMAZING!
I mean, the movie itself was good. There were very few actors who couldn't act, the story line was predictable but really well done, and well, it was fun. What completely blew me away was the 3D! You can't possibly imagine the depth of field that they achieved unless you see it. Oh, and lets talk about the other awesome technology that James Cameron used. He 'created' every seen twice. Once with the actors and then again in CGI. It made for the most amazing, realistic alien creators I have ever seen. Ok, so I guess there were two things that blew me away. The colors were amazing. The landscape was beyond visually stunning. Even if you don't care for this genre of movie you should see it for those reasons alone. I mean, ok, it was 3 hours long. I didn't notice that once. Do yourselves a favor and go see this incredible technology.
